Untitled1Pg. Dr Norhazlin Pg. Haji Muhammad is currently the Director of Sultan Omar ‘Ali Saifuddien Centre for Islamic Studies (SOASCIS), Universiti Brunei Darussalam (UBD). She obtained her early education at Arabic Schools in Brunei Darussalam, completed a Master of Education in Islamic Education from the International Islamic University of Malaysia in 2003. Her master Research project was on a Comparative Study between Al-Ghazzali and John Dewey’s Philosophies of Education. In 2010, she awarded doctorate in Islamic Studies from the University of Birmingham, United Kingdom in the area of Educational System in Brunei Darussalam in the light of Al-Attas’ Philosophy of Education.

She has previous experienced as the Islamic Education Coordinator and Breadth Module Convenor at Sultan Hassanal Bolkiah Institute of Education, Research Coordinator and Deputy Director for five years at SOASCIS, UBD and currently as a Member and the Country Representative for The International Institute of Islamic Thought (IIIT) based in Southeast Asia. She has also previously experienced as invited Lecturer for several years at Seri Begawan Religious Teachers University College, Brunei Darussalam. In 2013, Pg Dr Norhazlin was a Visiting Research Fellow at the Oxford Centre for Islamic Studies, United Kingdom. Her research was titled Transitional Learning of Islamic Studies in the West: Its Philosophy, Curriculum, and Challenges and in 2014 she attached to Prince Al-Waleed Centre of Muslim-Christian Understanding, Georgetown University, Washington D.C. USA for three months as a Visiting Research Fellow conducting further research on her project on a comparative study of Islamic studies in Britain and America.

She specializes in Islamic Philosophy of Education, Islamic Studies, Islamic Curriculum, Pedagogy of Teaching Islamic Education and System of Education in Brunei Darussalam. Her research interests include, comparative study between Islamic and Western philosophies of education, study on traditional and contemporary Muslim scholars’ model of thoughts, Muslim and Western patterns of education, Brunei Law and Islamic Law, Islam and Women Issues Child Protection in Islamic perspective and Waqf in Brunei Darussalam. Her latest publication include the Empowerment of Women and Girls in Southeast Asia, UNESCO, A Better World: Actions and Commitments to the Sustainable Development Goals, London: Tudor Rose by Osman Bakar, Norhazlin Muhammad & Ariffin Abu Bakar, 2016.
